Inspired by my involvement with Seth Godin’s The Domino Project, some of the projects that I’ve started in the last 12 months include:

NO EMAIL DAY (11/11/11)
A campaign for people to avoid email for 24hrs on 11th November 2011 so they could be more productive with their time. My 10-page ‘manifesto’ was viewed over 30,000 in a month and the campaign received international support and media coverage by the BBC, The Next Web, Forbes, Wall Street Journal and The Sunday Times. Inspired by Seth Godin’s ‘Poke The Box’ and ‘Unleashing The Ideavirus’, No Email Day was a great example of how ideas can spread far and wide if certain criteria are met.

PostOffice
The ‘PostOffice‘ in Newcastle upon Tyne, England is a blank canvas space for developers, creatives and tech start-ups to meet for informal networking, presentations and collaborative thinking. Since June 2011, the aim has been to provide a focal point for the local grass roots tech/digital scene, encouraging greater sharing of skills and knowledge. BabyFriendlyNorthEast
When my wife was made unemployed at the start of 2011, I tried to think of a business she could run from home that I could support in my spare time. With her talent for writing and love of parenting, plus my web/social media skills, I came up with the idea for BabyFriendlyNorthEast, a website offering ‘information on baby-friendly cafes, restaurants & fun things to do, plus special offers, deals & discounts for parents & grandparents too!’ (The plan was to make money through advertising from featured businesses). After a short while, my wife found another job (great) but unfortunately that means we haven’t had the time to run the site properly (not so great).

Consultancy
Over the past 14yrs I’ve had the great fortune to work in a variety of IT/web/marketing roles for large corporates, SME’s and not-for-profits including my current position of Web Development Executive for Shell LiveWIRE, ‘the UK’s biggest online community for young entrepreneurs’.
